Have You Suffered Permanent Hair Loss After Taking Taxotere®?

Many women who undergo chemotherapy treatment for cancer are prescribed the drug Taxotere® (generic: docetaxel), a medication which impedes the growth and spread of cancer cells in the body. Most commonly used to treat breast cancer, lung cancer, stomach cancer, and head/neck cancer, the once hailed "wonder drug” has been linked with chemotherapy-induced alopecia (CIA), or permanent hair loss. Hair may fall out entirely, gradually, or in sections. While this side effect is usually temporary with other medications, many patients treated with Taxotere have found the condition to be permanent.

Taxotere May Cause Permanent Hair Loss

Between 10 and 15 percent of cancer patients who have taken Taxotere experience permanent hair loss after treatment. Out of 2.8 million women, 75 percent of whom have taken this drug, there are thousands of women suffering from a loss of self-esteem and quality of life associated with forever losing their hair. Hair loss is not just about physical appearance – for many women, this can be a deep emotional challenge, and a lasting reminder of their battle with cancer.

There is evidence to suggest that Sanofi Aventis, the sole drug company that has produced Taxotere since 1996, knew about the risk of permanent hair loss and failed to adequately warn patients and doctors of this risk. This failure prevented patients from being able to choose from among other chemotherapy drugs with the same level of effectiveness and without the risk of permanent baldness. The Maher Law Firm is now reviewing Taxotere cases and is prepared to represent clients in lawsuits against the negligent drugmaker.

Accepting Cases Nationwide for Taxotere Permanent Hair Loss

While hair loss may be a small price to pay to save a life, there is no question that this side effect should have been avoidable, or at the very least that women should have been warned of the potential risks they faced. If you or a loved one has experienced permanent hair loss after chemotherapy, you may be entitled to compensation. The Maher Law Firm stands ready to help.
