Chrysler Group is recalling 6,900 heavy duty Ram pickup trucks.

The 2012 model year Ram heavy duty pickup truck, has a front prop shaft which connects the engine to the axle. The prop shaft can bind and /or fracture causing the truck to lose power.

Trucks being recalled involve 5,600 Ram 4500 and 5500 in the United States and 1,300 in Canada. Chrysler is investigating the issue and will notify owners. Dealers will repair or replace the front axles for free.

In other news – Chrysler announced they are recalling Jeeps over air bag, and seat-belt issues.

Chrysler is recalling 630,000 Jeeps worldwide. 409,000 Jeep Patriot and Compass small SUVs around the world from 2010 and 2012 model years to fix air bag and seat belt problems. USA Today notes “it is also recalling 221,000 Jeep Wranglers worldwide from 2012 and 2013 to fix transmission fluid leaks, according to documents posted Thursday on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) website.”

Coverage of Chrysler’s effort to resist NHTSA’s request for a voluntary recall on Jeep vehicles due to a potential exploding fuel tank is escalating.

Bloomberg News reports “Chrysler’s refusal could lead to the first recall related hearing by the auto safety regulator in decades and possibly a court challenge. The NHTSA hopes that Chrysler will reconsider its position and take action to protect its customers and the driving public.”
