Selective Serotonin Re-uptake Inhibitors

SSRI’s, or Selective Serotonin Re-Uptake Inhibitors, are a class of compounds typically used as anti-depressants in the treatment of depression, anxiety disorders, and some personality disorders.

Common SSRI's include:

  • Prozac (Fluoxetine)
  • Zoloft (Sertraline
  • Lexapro (Escitalopram)
  • Paxil (Paroxetine)
  • Celexa (Citalopram HBr)

SSRI’s can be dangerous and cause serious adverse effects. Most side effects are present during the first 1 to 4 weeks while your body adapts to the drug. Although, it often takes 6 to 8 weeks for the drug to begin reaching its full potential. Almost all SSRI’s cause one or more of the following symptoms:
